How to Download a Free Cell Phone Ringtone

Novelty ringtones are very popular. Chances are you have heard barking dogs or air raid sirens announcing calls in the grocery store. But if you have ever tried to get a free cell phone ringtone you may have found the process irritating at best. All the companies out there that charge subscription fees, fill up your email with spam, and relentlessly text you junk messages can’t be the only way to get cool ringtones. Downloading a ringtone to your phone is easier than these companies would like you to believe and all you need is a computer and your phone.

The easiest way to download a ringtone to your cell phone is to email it to your phone. While technically you’re getting the ringtone for free you still have to pay the $.25 or whatever your carrier charges for a multimedia message, but that is a lot better than 5.99 a month and 1 million emails. This will also only work if you can send and receive multimedia messages, you know the ones with pictures, videos, and sound recordings, from your cell phone. The first step to downloading your very own free ringtone is picking which one you want. Find an MP3 file online or on your computer that you like and save it to your computer. Then find out your phone’s email address. For example if you are on the AT&T network, formerly Cingular, your phone’s address is: yournumber@mms.att.net. The easiest way to find out your phone’s email address is to send yourself an email from your phone and then look at the “from” address. After you know your phones address just attach the MP3 file you want as a ring tone to an email and send it to your phone. If everything goes right you should have your new ringtone in a few seconds and all for the cost of a multimedia message without annoying subscriptions and spam.

If downloading a ringtone through email doesn’t work there are still other ways to get a free cell phone ringtone. Bluetooth is a great way to do it. Using Bluetooth to get ringtones is absolutely free apart from the cost of the Bluetooth dongle (the little thing that plugs into your computers USB port) and you may already have one. If not, you can get one off of EBay or at your local electronics store for a few dollars. Your phone has to be Bluetooth enabled but virtually every phone manufactured in the last few years are. To get your free ringtone connect your phone to your computer via Bluetooth and find the MP3 file on your computer you want as your ringtone. Then drag the file from your computer into the folder on your phone that contains your ringtones. It should instantly transfer and then you should be able to go into your cell phone and listen to your free ringtone. Getting ringtones for free is easier than you thought.
